At Tudor Academy, we believe that Science is the key to understanding the world around us and igniting young minds with boundless curiosity.

At Tudor Academy, our Science curriculum is guided by our PUPAC values and the curriculum drivers of collaboration, communication, and creativity. These core principles ensure that students develop not only scientific knowledge but also the skills to work together, communicate their ideas, and think creatively. Our curriculum aims to ignite curiosity and equip students with the tools to understand and engage with the world around them.

Curriculum Intent and Structure
Our Science curriculum is thoughtfully designed to balance scientific content with practical skills, allowing students to explore and understand various scientific disciplines. Students develop both substantive knowledge—such as the parts of a flower or the names of planets—and disciplinary knowledge, including practical procedures and working scientifically. This comprehensive approach ensures that students build a deep understanding of scientific concepts while developing critical thinking skills.

Learning Approach and Skills Development
Students are encouraged to 'think like a scientist,' engaging in activities that involve proving, disproving, and creating links between different pieces of knowledge. The curriculum covers five main areas: Human Biology, Energy, Materials, Earth Sciences, Forces, and Ecology. Each area is revisited incrementally to deepen understanding and reinforce prior learning, from Early Years through to Year 6.

Working Scientifically and Practical Application
The curriculum includes a strong emphasis on working scientifically, with students participating in various enquiry types such as fair testing, observation over time, and research. They are taught to ask relevant questions, conduct experiments, observe results, and draw conclusions. This hands-on approach not only enhances their scientific understanding but also fosters an appreciation for the scientific method and its application in everyday life.

Key Features and Objectives

  • Progressive Knowledge Building: Students acquire and build upon a broad range of scientific knowledge, revisiting key concepts to deepen understanding.
  • Skill Development: Focus on practical skills and scientific enquiry, enabling students to conduct experiments and analyse data.
  • Critical Thinking and Curiosity: Encourages students to ask questions, think critically, and explore scientific phenomena.

Through our Science curriculum, Tudor Academy aims to cultivate inquisitive and knowledgeable students who are well-prepared to understand and contribute to the world through scientific exploration and discovery.
